We’re getting a lot of questions about 10.9. We are working on an update and should have that out soon to address some issues that are showing up. If you are interested in beta testing, please email Beta testers need to be able to test on 10.9, and also provide constructive feedback quickly.

Also, we have a lot of promo codes which are expiring. So here they are.

Good luck!

Growl anniversary sale

It was over nine years ago that we started Growl. The original name was (ironically) Notifications Center. We changed the name thinking that Growl was a lot less geeky and less intimidating.

Today Growl has support from over 400 applications, and millions of people using Growl in a lot of different ways. We’re working on new versions of our different applications and the SDK for developers, and we’re getting a lot of great feedback from people. Let’s keep it going!

So for a short time we’re going to have an anniversary sale. Go ahead and grab it here if you haven’t already. The price was just changed so it might take a few minutes to reflect the price change on the store.

Thanks for all the support everyone. It really means the world to us.

Betas betas everywhere

Growl - Growl 2.1 is in the final stages of beta for 2.1. It’s being translated by our excellent group of volunteers as well, and it’s shaped up into a really good release. Those who like writing AppleScripts or shell scripts are really going to love this release, you can do so much more with controlling your notifications.

HardwareGrowler - HardwareGrowler 2.1 will introduce our most requested feature, the ability to ignore volumes based on a prefix. So in 2.1 you’ll be able to ignore all drives that start with something. Here’s an example:

If you put this in, you’ll be able to ignore any disk that starts with Data. This should really help anyone having problems with disks that have slightly different names over time.

GrowlTunes - GrowlTunes 2.2 is also nearing release and is in the final stages of beta. Don’t let the small version number bump fool you, this update has a huge set of changes and we’ve addressed our highest requested features. Between being able to run GrowlTunes in the background, to adding in shortcut support to be able to control iTunes easier, this is going to be a great release of GrowlTunes.

SDK feedback

We’re currently working on improving the framework in the SDK to make things easier for developers. One of the things we could use is feedback from people actually using our framework.

So if you are a developer who uses the Growl framework in your application, please get in touch. Tell us what you like, what you dislike, or just pop by and say hi. If you’re new to the Growl framework and curious as to how it will work, we can talk to you about that as well.

There are multiple ways to get in touch with us:

Open for translation

We’re looking to add support for more languages to Growl. If you’re interested in translating/localizing Growl, here’s how to help:

  1. Go to and sign up for an account.
  2. Apply to the language team you want to work on at .
  3. If a team already exists you can still apply, but you will need to work with existing members.
  4. If a team does not exist for your language, go ahead and request to make one.
  5. Email to get onto the private translators list.

Growl space has moved

We’ve been busy getting the latest Growl and GrowlTunes updates ready to go. In the meantime we needed to move our talking space over to somewhere else since Posterous is shutting down. For now we’ve moved to

We should have more detailed updates about both the Growl and GrowlTunes updates within the next week, along with some good information about the SDK for Developers.

- Chris

PS In case you are curious, Twitter acquired Posterious and they are shutting it down on April 30th, which is today. Hence the move. We all loved using Posterous and we’re sad to see it go. Oh well, progress.
